Excess flow check valves are designed to close upon excessive discharge of liquid or vapor resulting from a break in the piping system. When the flow rate exceeds the valve setting, the valve closes and remains closed until the system pressure equalizes. If the flow does not exceed the setting the valve will not close. Careful consideration should be given to valve selection.
